Composting, and vermicomposting (vermicasting) are the “big guns” used to release (mineralize) plant nutrients from organic matter, such as food scraps. Some nutrients in food scraps and suspended in the liquid found in food scraps. They only need a small “nudge” to be released. This is the small nudge applied by the Plant Feeder (Patent Pending). The Plant Feeder is not a composter, not a vermicaster. It’s a device that keeps food scraps aerated, prevents fermentation and odors, and is also used to extract liquid fertilizer from the food scraps. Solid residuals come out of this process, and these can be tossed int eh green bin, or (vermi)composted, but even if you don’t compost them, you would have still obtained the fertilizer you need for your plants, from your food scraps. The Plant Feeder is ideal for condos where composting is not possible.
